Road Safety

A loss of limb or a severe disability can have  disastrous effect on a person – physically, financially, and psycologically. Mid-life disability is difficult to come to terms with. As a prevention initiative, we conduct road safety awareness programs in schools and colleges.

Camp at Mar Gregorious College

In pursuance of its mission of Road Safety, Sukriti Social Foundation organized an awareness programme at Mar Gregorious College on October 2nd, 2006 on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanthi. Ms Sowmya Simhan, Founder Trustee of Sukriti Social Foundation made a presentation on Road Safety. Over 200 students from various city colleges attended the programme.

Presentation at Anand Institute of Technology

On March 6, 2008, Sukriti delivered a Road Safety Sensitisation Programme at Anand Institute of Higher Technology, Chennai. Eighty (80) students of the College participated in the programme. As part of the programme, a PowerPoint presentation on safe driving habits was made.

Road Safety Education for School Children

Road safety education program was conducted for 150 students of class eleven of PS Higher Secondary School,(Main) today(11th Jan 2011) in association with Arrive Safe Society,Chandigarh and Lions Club of Chennai Silver Pearls.The pictorial power point presentation comprised of safety while walking on the road,safety while riding a cycle and safety while travelling by car or two wheeler.A quiz on road safety was also conducted.

Quiz on Road Safety

A quiz on road safety was conducted on 12.1.2009 at the Madras School of Social Work, Egmore, Chennai in partnership with Lions Club Of Silver Pearls. The National Service Scheme (NSS) program office Prof. Lavanya welcomed the gathering. The Principal of the School of Social Work addressed the gathering and stressed the need for safe driving habits. The State Coordinator for NSS, Dr Raja Hussain said that road safety is a key area of work for the NSS.

Mr Suresh Krishna, an accident victim spoke about his experience. He said that his accident happened when he was working in USA. As the accident cases are handled very well there, he was able to survive. There they are very well trained in handling accident situations whereas in India it is not so.The ambulance also arrives very quickly and the police take immediate action.He also said that he can not forget two days in his life, one his birthday and the other the day of the accident. He considers it as a rebirth as the spinal chord injury has totally changed his life.
NSS volunteer Mr S.Ve Easwaran said that they are taking all necessary steps to put a pedestrian crossing outside their college.
Ln Rajalakshmi Ramakrishnan, President of Lions Club Of Silver Pearls also spoke on the occation.

The quiz was conducted by Ms Sowmya Simhan. There were three teams of two participants each and an audience of fifty. There were ten rounds of questions and the response was very good. Posters on road safety were also put up at the venue. The inputs for the quiz and the posters were provided by Arrivesafe Society, Chandigarh.
