Bookshare.org India chapter launched- a boon for the print disabled

It is amazing to see how technology is now making printed books accessible to the disabled. Bookshare.org is probably the most popular sites in the US that makes printed books available in digital form to the disabled. It is an online library of digital books for people with print disabilities -like visually impaired, people with physical disabilities who can not hold a book and people with learning disabilities. This is very much superior to the audio books that we have here.Bookshare Members download books, textbooks and newspapers in a compressed, encrypted file. They then read the material using adaptive technology, typically software that reads the book aloud (text-to-speech) and/or displays the text of the book on a computer screen.

Now this has been launched in India in partnership with Xavier's Resource Center for the Visually Challenged, Mumbai. This service is being offered at a highly subsidized rate. I think this is a good beginning.
